Scout Day at Graham Park

Pack 403, along with other Cub Scout packs, and Boy and Girl Scout troops from the area, participated in Scout Day at Graham Park, which took place next to the Scouting pond.  The various packs and troops set up demonstrations, games, and finishing for the public to enjoy.   All the scouts took place in a tree planting ceremony to honor a girl scout leader who had unexpectedly passed away.

Spring Camp (and a little rain!)

Pack 403 spend this past weekend enjoying Spring Family Camp at Camp Agawam.  This year’s theme was “Mystery Tour” .   Activities included: BB Guns, Archery, Paddle Boats, Fishing, Gaga Ball, Monkey Bridge, Scavenger Hunt (Where is George’s Luggage), First Aid, Paper Airplane – fly for distance, Neckerchief Slide, OA Drum Team, SRU Aquatics Club Booth, and Scout Law Scramble

Scouts also filled up on smores and mountain pies.  Of course, like all Spring camps, it did rain a bit, but once the rain passed, we had a beautiful day to enjoy the rest of the camp, including a Rainbow!

Last Pack Meeting of the School Year

Tonight was the last pack meeting of the school year and it was a full agenda. All the boys advanced in rank and we also welcomed a Bobcat, awarded the Lions their Cub Class A uniforms and the Wolves entertained us with a skit! We had a fabulous year but the spring and summer fun is just getting started! Congratulations, boys!

Pinewood Derby

The Pack held its annual pinewood derby this past Saturday.  Every year the cub scouts build their own cars and race them against each other.  The top 3 cars for each den race in the finals for the pack.  The top winners of the finals get to compete at the council’s race.  Scouts can also win awards for best designed cars.  In additional to the fun of racing against each other, the scouts enjoyed wings, subs, pizza, chips and salsa,  cookies, and other snacks courtesy of our Sponsors: Buffalo Wild Wings, DiBella’s Subs, Costco, Einstein Brother’s Bagels, Moe’s, and Shop-n-Save.  All our sponsors donated food, and  all proceeds from the sales goes to fund the Pack.   The Pack also would like to thank Dutilh United Methodist Church for allowing us to use their facilities to hold the event.

Pinewood Derby Workshop

The Pack’s Pinewood Derby is just around the corner!  To prepare for this, the Pack held its annual Pinewood Derby building workshop.  The scouts design and build their own cars, which they will race against other scouts within their dens for trophies and bragging rights.

Band saws, a drill press, power sander, and drill contraptions (to smooth axles and wheels) were set up for the scouts to use.  The scouts intensely worked on getting the design, cuts, sanding, and axle-smoothing right, as each one has their eye set for the 1st place trophy.   It’s all about straight and smooth axles, getting the weight as close to maximum, and looks!

Bowling and Laser Tag

The cub scouts participated in the annual family bowling and laser tag event.  This year, we had the laser tag to ourselves and played at least half a dozen back-to-back games.  Bowling was fun as usual, and we stuffed ourselves with Pizza, wings, and dipping dots.  Some of the scouts were ringers on the ticket-games!

December Pack Meeting, 50th Anniversary, Santa, and Pieing the Leaders!

December’s pack meeting was a memorable one!  First, we celebrating the pack’s 50th anniversary with cake and drinks.  A bunch of old pack memorabilia, pictures, and even an old charter was brought out on display.  Scouts from Troop 404 came by and helped the cub scouts with knot tying.  Santa came by and handed out our pinewood derby kits.  The most memorable thing, though, was that the top Popcorn sellers got to pie whichever leader/adult they chose!  Three of the leaders got a big fat whipped cream pie smashed in their face!

Webelos Day of Learning

The scouts had a very special treat today, spending the day at Brayman Construction in Saxonburgh learning about metalworking and welding.  The scouts were able to use the various tools and welder to do hands-on metalworking.  Pack 403 would like to thank Brayman Construction for hosting us!
